Developing in Montgomery County

Implementing Plans Through Development Review

One of the most important ways the Montgomery County Planning Board implements the vision of the County's General Plan and master plans is through its review of proposed development and its subdivision decisions.

The Montgomery County Department of Park and Planning's Development Review division coordinates the timely review of proposed development projects. Development is reviewed for consistency with the adopted master plan, for its impact on the environment, for the quality of its design and compatibility with its neighbors, and for the availability of public facilities (water and sewer, transportation, schools). The Department may recommend that proposed projects dedicate land for roads, schools, parks, or recreation facilities. Department staff work with developers and neighbors to address issues of concern.
