Historic Preservation Commission Grants
The Historic Preservation Grant Fund provides small grants to non-profit groups, which must be matched dollar-for-dollar with either cash or in-kind contributions. Applications are made available each summer and are due in September. Decisions are made in the fall, and those groups chosen for grants must complete their work by the close of the following calendar year.
Historic Preservation Tax Credits
To encourage the restoration and preservation of privately-owned structures designated on the Master Plan for Historic Preservation either individually or within a historic district, the Montgomery County Council in 1984 passed legislation providing for a tax credit against County real property taxes (Chapter 52, Article VI). The tax credit is 10% of documented expenses for exterior maintenance, restoration or preservation work, and the work must be certified eligible by the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC). View instructions for filing an application, the application packet itself, a list of frequently asked questions and information about state and federal tax credit programs.
