Dog Parks in Montgomery County

Montgomery County Dog Parks

M-NCPPC opened its first Dog Park at Wheaton Regional Park, near the Wheaton Ice Arena off Arcola Avenue in January 2003. Later a second Dog Park was opened on Picnic Lane at Black Hill Regional Park in the Germantown/Clarksburg area. A third area was opened June 2003 at Ridge Road Recreational Park in Germantown along with the remaining park. Each area is approximately a half acre in size and is enclosed with a 6-foot chain link fence. All three sites are popular meeting spots and exercise areas for local dog owners and their canine friends.

There are approximately 7 million dogs in the United States. Approximately 700,000 dogs in the state of Maryland. Montgomery County has over 25,000 licensed dogs. Dogs are members of approximately 32% of all households in the United States and there are approximately 600 dog exercise areas across the United States.

The Planning Board adopted policies governing the creation and management of Dog Parks (Dog Exercise Areas) in June 2002.
