Description: This Facility Plan focuses on the completion of this regional trail within Montgomery County. The trail is a transportation and recreation project. The Facility Plan addresses the portion of the trail that runs from Jones Mill Road through downtown Silver Spring and part of Takoma Park ending at the boundary with the District of Columbia. Most of this trail portion is along a former rail line which is master planned to contain both the trail and the Purple Line (Bi-County Transitway). Therefore, this Facility Plan shows how the trail can be routed today, what route it could take during construction of a transitway, and what route it should take when the transitway is complete. The future design and construction of the trail will be done by the Montgomery County Department of Public Works and Transportation. The City of Takoma Park is designing and building the portion within the City limits. Montgomery County's Department of Public Works and Transportation is designing the portion of the trail from the College to the Silver Spring Metrorail Station.

Opportunities for Public Participation:
Completed for the Facility Plan. The Planning Board will hold a public hearing on May 18, 2006 regarding the County's facility planning study for the portion of the Metropolitan Branch Trail between the Silver Spring Metrorail Station and the Montgomery College- Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus.
